Bel Air has grown substantially since its humble beginnings when it was known as Scott’s Oil Fields. Initially a land grant issued to Daniel Scott in the first part of the 18th century, Bel Air has experienced both rapid and slow growth. From 42 main street lots in 1782 to becoming the county center for governmental, educational, and cultural activity, Bel Air has a rich history and continues to grow.
Take a step back in time and have a walk through the historic Hays House to get an idea of what life was like hundreds of years ago, or take a trip down Ma & Pa’s heritage trail, which follows the old railroad of the same name that played a crucial role in the growth and expansion of Bel Air.
