While there are advantages and disadvantages to both scenarios of tank ownership, the most important factor is finding a company you trust to do business with. Owning your tank gives you more flexibility in choice but more responsibility when there is a problem. Leasing a tank ties you to a certain company but takes the worry of maintenance and service off your plate. To find out which option is best for you, read our article on owning vs. leasing a tank.

Propane Delivery

Propane tanks are never filled to 100% due to the risk of propane gas expansion. The propane industry follows a 80/20 rule where tanks are only filled to 80%. This is especially important in the hot weather months where liquid propane will expand the most. Read up on how to read a propane tank gauge to learn more.

You do not have to be home when a delivery happens. Make sure to communicate where your tank is in comparison to your home so our drivers can be as efficient as possible. If you have a special situation where our driver needs to go through a gate, needs special access, or needs to be wary of dogs, please let us know so we can make accommodations.

One of the best things about Great Valley Propane is that our customers are with us because they choose to be! For our customers who own their own propane tank, we do not require long term contracts. Customers who lease their tanks from us must abide by their lease agreement. If you are ever unhappy with Great Valley Propane, simply give us a call to discuss closing your account or having your tanks picked up. Our flexible delivery and payment options, combined with our excellent customer service fit every potential customer’s needs.

Most homeowners and business owners prefer automatic deliveries for the peace of mind that comes with not worrying about forgetting to check their propane tank level and schedule a delivery. In addition, our customers take advantage of our pricing options that are offered for our automatic delivery customers. Learn more about the differences between automatic deliveries and will call deliveries.

We are very proud to be a NO DELIVERY FEE COMPANY. We do not charge any delivery surcharge fees, hazmat fees, or other add-ons you see with many other propane companies.

Our will call deliveries usually take between 2-3 business days to arrive. During rough weather conditions, this timeframe can sometimes be extended. However, if you are in desperate need of propane, please give our office a call to see if we can accommodate. Oftentimes, routes have been set multiple days in advance. This is another reason why our customers prefer automatic deliveries; they don’t have to worry about last-minute arrangements.

Our automatic delivery customers benefit from never having to worry about their propane tank level. We use one of two methods to track their propane usage. The first method is through a complex formula known as degree days. The second method, which is becoming very popular, is by placing a remote gauge monitor on the propane tank. This allows us to see the propane level from our office at all times. Learn more here!

What size propane tank you need depends on the purpose of the propane usage. Consumers’ propane usage amount widely varies based on the what the propane is being used to heat (whole house heating, cooking, generator, etc) and the size of the home. This page goes into detail about which tank size is right for your home. Not completely convinced? Give us a call to discuss your options!

Converting your house to propane can be a big decision. But it’s the right one. Propane is efficient, economical, ready available, American made, safe, and cheaper than a lot of other fuels. Hiring the right company can make your life and your decision very easy! Here are all the details you need to know about converting to propane.

Reading a propane tank gauge is like performing simple math. Multiple the percentage showing on the dial by the tank capacity to understand how many gallons are left in the tank. Keep in mind, propane tanks are only filled to about 80% due to safety reasons. For more information on how to read a propane tank gauge, read our article!

If you own your own propane tank, you CAN paint it. However, you have to be careful with your choice of color and paint. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has certain guidelines for what is acceptable when painting propane tanks. Click here to learn more.

While there is no “better” option, there are differences in installation codes and a large part of the decision comes down to customer preference. Above ground tanks are usually smaller and the homeowner would choose this if they don’t mind seeing the tank outside their home. However, larger tanks are usually buried. Some homeowners would rather not see their propane tank in their yard, hence why they choose underground tanks. To learn more about the key differences in tank locations, read our article on above ground vs. underground tanks.

Emergency Service

If you run out of propane, shut off all appliances and close the service valve on the propane tank. Immediately alert us of the situation. A safety and leak check will have to be performed by a professional before resuming use of your equipment. Once the situation is resolved, give us a call to get set up on automatic deliveries to limit your chances of this happening again! Read more about our emergency services and the dangers of letting a propane tank run empty.

If you smell gas inside or around your home/building, follow the below steps:

  1. Put out all smoking materials and other flames. DO NOT OPERATE lights, appliances, telephones, or cell phones.
  2. Leave the house/building immediately
  3. Open the propane tank lid and shut off the service valve to stop the flow of gas. Only do this if you feel comfortable doing so.
  4. Call your propane supplier immediately to report the problem and DO NOT return to the home/building until a licensed professional says it is safe to do so.
